Board of Directors



Zaiviji Ismail ("ZI") has extensive local and international board and operational experiences in setting up strategies and policies for Companies, developing leadership and meeting shareholders and stakeholders' commitments.

He was appointed Director of Cement Industries of Malaysia Berhad ("CIMA") since 17 February 2012 and was appointed Chairman of CIMA on 1 April 2018. He is also Chairman of Uniquest Ventures Pte Ltd, India (a joint venture Company between UEM Group and IDFC of India) and its 3 subsidiaries in the country.

Previously, ZI was Khazanah National Berhad's Nominee Director on the Board of UEM Group Berhad ("UEM") from September 2011 to March 2018 and Chairman of both UEM's Board Nomination and Remuneration Committee as well as UEM's Board Digital Transformation Committee.

He had also served on the Boards of the following companies:-
1. UEM Builders Berhad ("UEMB") and was the Chairman of the UEMB's Board Executive Committee;
2. PLUS International Expressways Berhad;
3. TIME Engineering Berhad ("TIME Engineering") and was Chairman of the TIME Engineering's Board Executive Committee; and
4. Chairman of Dagang Nexchange Berhad.

ZI was with Shell for over 21 years, the last 11 years of which undertaking international assignments. He had been exposed to almost all facets of Shell's Downstream business, namely, IT, Logistics and Operations, Business Transformation, Training and Learning, Sales and Marketing. Prior to his retirement from Shell in July 2011, ZI served the last 5+ years as Executive Chairman of Shell Companies in Pakistan. He was also the CEO and MD of Shell Pakistan Ltd., a public listed company. ZI was amongst the only 4 Malaysians in Shell Malaysia who had the honour of serving as Country Chairman outside Malaysia. He was also the first Asian expatriate to shoulder the position of Chairman of Shell Companies in Pakistan.

From August 2006 to July 2011, ZI sat on various Boards in Pakistan and Oman, covering energy, health, educational and other sectors. This included 4 public listed companies (plc), two of which he was the Chairman. ZI was also the Senior Director of Pakistan Refinery Ltd for over 6 years and was the Chairman of the Refinery's Nomination and Recruitment Committee and a member of the Board Strategic Committee. ZI also served as the President of the Petroleum Institute of Pakistan from July 2010 to June 2011 and played a big role on the deregulation of the petroleum sector in Pakistan. He was also a Board member of Pakistan's Overseas Investor's Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Trustee of Pakistan's Kidney Centre, Trustee of Pakistan's Centre of Philanthropy and Trustee of the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). ZI was also the Director of Shell Oman Marketing SAOG, a plc, and a member of its Board Audit Committee from 2005 to 2011.

In December 2009, the Malaysian Petroleum Club's Magazine, RESOURCE, carried a special article on ZI titled "Making a Difference Where It Matters" and in October 2010, ZI's efforts won him Pakistan's 1st Global CEO Excellence Award.

ZI is an MBA from Canfield University of Technology, England and is a Graduate Member of Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD). Some of the governance and board related courses that he had attended are:
1. Leading from the Chair (INSEAD, Fontainebleau);
2. International Company Directors Course (AICD, Melbourne);
3. International Foundations for Directors (AICD, Melbourne); and
4. Building High Performance Directors (INSEAD/MINDA, Colombo).

ZI is a keen marathon runner and a social golfer. He is happily married to Aziah binti Maulud and they are blessed with 3 children.



Managing Director


Sharuddin Omar Hashim was appointed Managing Director of Cement Industries of Malaysia Berhad on 14 May 2018.

Sharuddin was previously the Group Chief Financial Officer (GCFO) of PETRONAS Lubricants International Sdn Bhd ("PETRONAS Lubricants") and has had a distinguished 20-year career at PETRONAS where he held several key roles mainly in Finance spanning Finance Operations, Corporate Finance, Treasury, Tax, Corporate Governance, Assurance, Reporting and Risk Management in both local and regional capacities.

As GCFO of PETRONAS Lubricants, Sharuddin successfully implemented and enhanced a robust governance framework as well as led a global ERP-SAP roll out for the company. Prior to this, he held various Chief Financial Officer roles in PETRONAS group of companies including Egyptian Liquefied Natural Gas Sdn Bhd based in Cairo, PT PETRONAS Niaga Indonesia based in Jakarta and Asean Bintulu Fertiliser (ABF) Sdn Bhd based in Bintulu, Sarawak. Sharuddin also sat on the boards of PETRONAS Lubricants's operating companies in India, Italy, Africa, North America and Argentina.

Sharuddin, who started his career as a Senior Analyst, Audit/Assurance Division at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu in Perth, holds a Masters in Business Administration from University Utara Malaysia and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from University of New South Wales, Sydney.

He is also Member of Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, Malaysian Institute of Accountants, and Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia.



Non-Independent Non-Executive Director
Dato' Mohd Izani Ghani was appointed Director of Cement Industries of Malaysia Berhad (CIMA) on 15 January 2019, a wholly owned subsidiary of UEM Group Berhad (UEM Group).

He has over 27 years of investment and management experience and prior to joining UEM Group, was the Executive Director, Investments at Khazanah Nasional Berhad (Khazanah) where he oversaw its Turkey Regional Office. He was formerly Khazanah's Chief Financial Officer where under his leadership, the Government's strategic investment arm issued many landmark sukuk transactions including exchangeable and social impact sukuk. He had also previously served at Putrajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd and Renong Group.

On 1 January 2019, he was appointed Executive Director of UEM Group and re-designated as the Managing Director on 1 August 2019. Dato' Mohd Izani also sits on the Board of PLUS Malaysia Berhad, Projek Lebuhraya Usahasama Berhad, UEM Sunrise Berhad, UEM Edgenta Berhad, UEM Builders Berhad, Konsortium ProHAWK Sdn Bhd, Samsung C&T Corporation UEM Construction JV Sdn Bhd as well as Chairman and Board Member of PLUS Expressways International Berhad. Dato' Mohd Izani is also Member of the Board of Trustees of Yayasan UEM and Member of Board of Governors of Kolej Yayasan UEM.

Dato' Mohd Izani is an alumnus of the London School of Economics and Political Science, class of 1991. He subsequently obtained his professional qualification from Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and was conferred fellowship in 2000. He is a member of Malaysian Institute of Accountants and Chartered Institute of Islamic Finance Professionals.



Independent Non-Executive Director
Dato' Sr. Hisham Jafrey was appointed to the Board of Cement Industries of Malaysia Berhad on 26 September 2019.

Dato' Sr. Hisham, a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia and a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors United Kingdom, is the Managing Director of ARH Jurukur Bahan Sdn Bhd, which is one of the largest quantity surveying practice in Malaysia. He was also instrumental in incorporating ICG Global Sdn Bhd, a multi-disciplinary and project management consultancy organisation.

Dato' Sr. Hisham was Chairman of the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (Johor branch), member of the One Stop Approval Centre of Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru, member of the Ethics Committee Board of Quantity Surveyors and External Examiner for University Technology Malaysia.

Dato' Sr. Hisham who graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University started his career with Harlow and Milner of Wakefield, England. Returning to Malaysia in 1983, he joined Antara Construction Sdn Bhd. He later joined University Technology Malaysia and played a prominent role in the development of the Department of Quantity Surveying Faculty of Built Environment.

Dato' Roslan Ibrahim was appointed to the Board of Cement Industries of Malaysia Berhad ("CIMA") on 1 December 2019.

Dato' Roslan who holds a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from Swansea University, United Kingdom and a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Herriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, United Kingdom, is currently the Director, Technical of PNB 118 Project.

He has over 30 years of industry experience which includes a proven track record in managing complex infrastructure projects and is most familiar with the concrete industry.

He joined UEM Group Berhad ("UEM Group") in 2006 and brought along with him a wealth of cross functional experience from his background in Engineering and Construction as well as Business Development. During his tenure, he headed a team to design and build the Penang Second Bridge Project. Having successfully completed the Penang Second Bridge Project, he was assigned as Head of Group Business Development. Thereafter, he took up the position of President Direktor of PT Lintas Marga Sedaya, a 55% subsidiary of UEM Group that undertook the 116-kilometre, RM4.4 billion construction of the Cikopo-Palimanan highway project. On 1 August 2015, he was appointed Chief Operating Officer, Development of UEM Sunrise Berhad.

Prior to UEM Group, he was the Acting Executive Director for Operations and Business Development in Puncak Niaga Holdings Berhad. He started his career in 1981 and had been involved in several mega projects including the Peninsular Gas Pipeline, the 55-storey Menara Telekom, the Putrajaya Bridges and the Petronas Twin Towers. In the area of Business Development, he secured maiden projects in Sudan and Dubai during his tenure with MMC Engineering Group Berhad and IJM Corporation Berhad respectively.

Lee Lin Chien was appointed Director of Cement Industries of Malaysia Berhad on 16 January 2018.

He holds a B.Sc (Hons) Degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Manchester, United Kingdom and is a member of Society of Petroleum Engineers, USA.

Lee is a mechanical engineer by training with extensive working experience in oil and gas industry. Most part of his career had been with the Shell group of companies. He had worked for about 15 years with the Shell Refining Co Berhad followed by a 3 years assignment in Shell Marketing Distribution Division as Senior Distribution Manager. He had been directly involved with Shell's various transformation initiatives like business re-engineering and company-wide re-organization reviews. He acquired extensive international work experience during his 3-years stint with Shell International Petroleum Co. based in London. He later held several senior leadership roles at Shell's Regional and Global business organization including one as its Head of Global Operations Excellence/HSSE team. After retiring from Shell, he worked in Singapore for 5 years as a member of Vopak Terminals Singapore's senior leadership team, accountable for management of oil terminal storage business in Singapore and Pengerang Malaysia.

Currently, he is an Associate/Senior Consultant of a consultancy firm, specializing in providing high end management and technical consultancy services to the oil, gas and chemical process industries.

Zaida Khalida Shaari
was appointed Director of Cement Industries of Malaysia Berhad on 18 March 2019.

She is a barrister-at law and a member of the Honourable Society of Gray's Inn, London, having graduated with LLB (Hons) from University of Warwick, United Kingdom. She also holds a Master in Business Administration from University of Strathclyde, United Kingdom.

Zaida previously served Khazanah Nasional Berhad ("Khazanah") as Executive Director of Investments, the strategic investment fund of the Government of Malaysia. She joined Khazanah in January 2007 as a Senior Vice President of Investments and in April 2009, she was appointed as Director of Investments. Zaida oversees the real estate and education investments of Khazanah. She has been involved in various aspects of the Iskandar development since the commencement of the project.

Zaida began her career in 1991 in legal practice with Messrs Zain & Co. She joined Permodalan Nasional Berhad ("PNB") in 1997 as legal advisor to the corporate finance group and moved on to head the Legal and Compliance Department. In 2006, she was appointed as Company Secretary of PNB.

She is also Director of UEM Sunrise Berhad.

Ms. Tan Bee Eng
was appointed to the Board of Cement Industries of Malaysia Berhad on 24 October 2019.

Ms. Tan who holds a first-class degree in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics and Political Science, is the Vice President in the Investment Division of Khazanah Nasional Berhad ("Khazanah").

Prior to joining Khazanah in 2015, Ms. Tan was an Associate Director of Corporate Finance, KPMG London where she advised blue chip companies, MNCs, financial institutions, investment managers and strategic investors on value related matters in the context of mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, restructuring, disputes, tax and reporting.

Ms. Tan qualified as an auditor with Ernst & Young Kuala Lumpur before she joined KPMG London in 2005. She is also a Fellow Member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
