Environment : Achieving The Target Of Net Zero Carbon By 2050

A Journey which Began over 10 Years Ago, to Push the Boundaries of what is Possible

Utilising Alternative Fuel

  • Since 2007, CIMA has started utilizing rice husk in our cement production. We became the first cement manufacturer in Malaysia to adopt an alternative fuel combustion system in 2014, allowing more recycle materials such as pulverized fly ash, palm kernel shell, empty fruit bunch, carbon granule and rubber to be incorporated in our production to reduce the dependence on fossil fuel.

Incorporating Alternative Raw Material

  • As part as our efforts to reduce the need for landfills, CIMA has been incorporating alternative raw material including SW421 and SW207 sludge, as well as mud cake as an alternative raw material in our production.

Introducing Greener Products and Solutions

  • Our composite cement was introduced in 2010 and we have followed it up with various greener cement products, GGBS and high-performance concrete that is more sustainable. Some of our key products have received the green label certification from the Singapore Environment Council.

Preserving The Environment

  • CIMA has both air and water quality monitoring mechanisms in place to ensure compliance with the rules and regulations. Our plants are certified with ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 certifications. We are currently in the process of installing the Waste Heat Recovery system which upon completion, will save up to 30% of our electricity consumption and reduce carbon dioxide emission by 24%.

The environment, social and governance (ESG) principles sit high on our agenda at CIMA.

Our commitment to continue operating in a more environmental-friendly and sustainable manner is further reaffirmed through our RM120 million Waste Heat Recovery System

This system, expected to be ready in 2024, will save up to 30% electricity consumption and reduce carbon dioxide emission by 24% at our plant in Bahau, Negeri Sembilan

A Comprehensive Effort, An Entire Value Chain Approach to Reduce Green House Emission

We are on a mission to accelerate the transition to a net-zero carbon economy by 2050, by focusing on each and all three scopes of emission

Direct emission from our operations

Continuously reducing our carbon emissions by:

  1. Replacing coal with recycled materials and biomass waste fuel in our kiln operations;

  2. Using alternative raw materials from waste products and by-products of other industries;

  3. Replacing clinker with substitute cementitious materials in our cement

Social

Social : Investing In Our Human Capital and The Community

As the Company Continues to Grow, We want Our People and the Community to Grow Together with Us

Developing our Human Capital

  • We place a great emphasis to provide continuous learning and development opportunities for our staff across all position levels – from young, fresh entrants to senior leaders. CIMA is on a journey to develop a more inclusive workforce through key policies on diversity, equity and inclusion.

Giving Back to the Community

  • Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts are centered on two key pillars – community assistance and education. We are always ready to lend a helping hand to the underprivileged community in the areas where we operate through financial and in-kind assistance. CIMA also sponsors various education initiatives towards creating a more conducive learning environment and bridging the educational gap.

Community Assistance

We believe in growing together with the local communities especially in the areas where we operate.

Our Corporate Social Responsibility Program is designed with primary emphasis on education – to provide a more conducive learning environment for the younger generation, especially those from less privileged background and help bridging the educational gap.
